Common Questions about Zero Emission Pledge:
1) Where can I get a zero emission vehicle?
Unfortunately the auto industry has intentionally stalled development of zero emission vehicles as they collude with 'big oil' to continue record profits at the expense of our planet's health. For over 6 years, hydrogen powered vehciles--which emit zero emissions--have been running successfully. All that is lacking is the will to create change.
2) What does my pledge to only purchase a zero emission vehicle accomplish?
Your pledge sends a powerful message to the automotive and energy industries. Even a minimal decrease in new car sales will equate to millions of dollars in lost revenue, helping spur development of ZEVs.
3) What about hurting the economy? Won't the Pledge hurt existing auto jobs?
This campaign is about creating new, hi-tech jobs in sustainable energy development. Even in the short term, economies will balance out as more emphasis will be placed on the used vehicle market and related areas (such as parts, accessories and maintenance services).
4) What about so-called "hybrid" gas-electric cars that are currently being sold?
While we applaud efforts to improve fuel efficiency and to reduce emissions, hybrid cars typically fall short by offering only marginal fuel mileage improvements; they do very little to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels. The ever-increasing worldwide demand for gas powered vehicles overshadows any positive results we might otherwise have seen from the hybrids.
5) Can I purchase a used vehicle?
Yes, the Zero Emission Pledge is a commitment to not purchase a new vehicle.
6) What ultimately happens to my pledge after I join the campaign?
Your pledge is the most important part of this campaign. After joining, your pledge is first electronically delivered to the world's major auto manufacturers, then it is printed on kenaf tree-free paper. As the campaign grows and financial resources become available, we will begin public outreach programs such as press conferences and mass media advertising campaigns to get the word out more quickly.
7) What if, after taking the pledge, my situation requires that I simply must purchase a new vehicle?
All we ask is that you contact us and explain your situation. We will be happy to discuss alternatives with you and, if possible, assist you in keeping your pledge. If we cannot successfully help you, the details of your situation may still help us to formulate our strategies to develop a zero emission industry.
8) How can I contribute to the Zero Emission Pledge Campaign?
Glad you asked! Your support is crucial. Please consider making a financial donation to support this work. While the project has not yet established non-profit status, all funds are dedicated to developing this site and advancing outreach on this critical issue. In addition to financial donations, you can also get involved by simply spreading the word. We are now setting up a series of posters, bumper stickers, and general membership plans - please stay tuned... |
